Dear Lifehacker,Hemi 5.7. I was surprised to find out that my 2017 Hemi QC has "MDS". I thought they got rid of that when they went to variable valve timing. I have been experimenting with MDS off (8th gear trick) and can really tell the difference in sound and feel when MDS is turned on/off. I looks like Range Technology is finally making a device to disable the MDS. They have been making them for years to disable gm's active fuel management. It is a small device that plugs into the OBDII port and turns it off. To turn it back on you remove it. $199.The system is super finicky after it's detected a fault. The best course of action would be to either disable them via AlfaOBD or disconnect the main harness for the sensors and deal with the warning about missing sensors until it's fixed. Changing to manual mode will disable MDS. In a Ram the manual mode simply limits the highest gear avaialble for the transmission to shift up to. So if you select 5, it will shift just as it regularly does but won't shift past 5th. Drive it and you will DEF know if it has MDS. And sorry i over-read that, OF COURSE you need to do the fluids! Trans is every 30k, and diff service is easy pop the plug dip your finger in and see if its dark. Thats in-expensive (I need to do mine). Probably wouldnt hurt cleaning the TB and running some injector cleaner through.No tuner needed i hate hearing it in 4 banger mode with a straight pipeI just ordered a superchips flashpaq programmer for $295 after tax. This will allow you to delete MDS and if you are running bigger tires you can adjust the speedoneter. This tuner should also help with gas mileage and give you a little more power. I would recommend just spending the dough and losing the turd mode.
